Frequently Ask Questions
I've never done this before, how does it work?
If you call me now we can talk a little on the phone. You can ask questions and I'll explain how I work, including information about fees and insurance.
How do you work?
I'm an active therapist—that means I don't just sit there. I talk; I ask thought-provoking questions; I offer new perspectives. I use cognitive-behavioral approaches, problem-solving and other insight and experiential approaches. I try to explore all elements that underlie behavior—emotional, physical, and spiritual.
When you call, we will talk about what you are looking for—what difficulties you need help with, and whether I am a good fit for you. We will also discuss my fee and whether that fits for you. You'll be getting a sense of who I am, asking whatever questions you have, and deciding whether I seem like someone you would be comfortable working with. If either of us feels that the fit doesn't seem right, I'll help you find someone else. Your future well-being is important to me.
I'm looking forward to hearing from you.
Do you take insurance? What if I have insurance you don't take?
At this time, I only take Medicare. However, as a licensed clinical social worker, my professional services qualify for insurance reimbursement, and are likely to be covered in full or in part by your health insurance or employee benefit plan. With the exception of Medicare, I am an "out-of-network provider;" I collect fees directly from you. You can submit the billing statement I provide to your insurance company so that you can utilize your PPO insurance plan's out-of-network benefits or flexible spending account funds.
